Christening & Family Celebration Catering in Scotland

A family celebration meal by The Italian Banquet Company

The Italian Banquet Company caters christenings and family celebrations across Scotland — and they have a gentleness all their own. After the grandeur of weddings and the weight of milestones, a christening lunch is something softer: daytime light through the windows, generations around one table, and the youngest person in the room — the one the whole day is for — very likely asleep through the entire thing. There is no occasion we cook that asks for less performance and more warmth.

A Daytime Kind of Joy

Christenings and naming celebrations happen in the light, and that changes the whole character of the food. This is lunch, not a banquet — generous but unhurried, the kind of meal where grandparents linger over coffee while children slip away from the table and come back. The cooking should match that mood: comforting, easy to love, nothing that demands too much ceremony from a room full of people who mostly want to hold the baby and talk to relatives they don't see often enough.

Cooking for Every Generation at Once

The lovely challenge of a family celebration is the spread of ages around the table. There's a great-grandmother who appreciates a properly made classic and a four-year-old who will eat exactly one thing and view everything else with suspicion. Italian food is quietly perfect for this — it has always been family food, built for tables with every generation at them. A bowl of fresh pasta pleases the child and the chef alike. Antipasti to share gets people reaching across the table and talking. Nobody feels catered-to-separately, because the whole point is that everyone eats together.

Around the Table, at Home or at a Venue

Many of these celebrations happen at home or at a hall close to the church, and that suits us — we bring the kitchen to wherever the family is gathering and cook it there, on the day. A christening doesn't need spectacle. It needs good food that lets the grown-ups relax and the day breathe, so that the gathering can be about the people rather than the logistics.

These are small, tender occasions, and we love them for exactly that. A family at one table, in the middle of an ordinary afternoon made to feel like an occasion — fed well, together, with the next generation asleep at the heart of it.
